9:00 - Broad | check-in and introductions, followed by tour |

Meet in studio, self-introductions, trust falls, etc.
Go over syllabus and materials

1:15-3:30

10 minute daily warm-up activity, air drawing and contour drawing of object within 5 feet.
Value rangeUsing the ruler and the 14x17 paper, draw 4 rows of 10, 1.5” squares with the HB pencil. Fill in each column from darkest possible value to lightest value, starting with sumi ink, graphite, conte crayon and charcoal.
Motor skillsFree drawing with dry media on newsprint. Tape off border with artist tape, draw freehand circles, ellipses and marks that only have curves. Fill the paper!
Repeat with marks that only have points and angles. Drawing with the whole body.

Demo in preparing surfaces, “Mud assignment”, continued work on color wheels and Mud

Homework: Assigned reading and 5 quick (5 minute) observational drawings

Tuesday What to paint?

Discuss methods of choosing subject matter, introduce relevant artists. Set up still life.

1:15-3:30 |
Using only browns and chromatic blacks students will paint multiple (20 minute) still life studies.

3:45-5:30 | Using a surface prepared on Monday students will work on a sustained still life painting (1hr) without the use of black |
Homework: Assigned reading, find and/or take photographs to paint from. Choose one photo and write down why it would make for a good painting.
